Week 6 Goals 2014

Wow! We are already in the 6th week of the year (Yes, I am counting the partial week at the very start of they year as a week).  For this week I have 2 simple goals. I need to sew the binding on my Riley Blake Star Quilt. The binding is already sewn to the front but now I need to do the hand sewing part. Normally I do not hand sew my bindings down but I am seriously contemplating entering this one in our local county fair this year so I want to go the extra mile and hand sew it.

I also need to cut some 6″ squares for the first ever quilting class that I am taking!!! Well that statement isn’t entirely true. I have taken several Craftsy classes, but this one will be in person with my guild. I am so EXCITED!  The class is about color value with Sew Katie Did. I am so very excited!  I need to cut 36 squares, all prints and NO solids. This will be quite a challenge for me. I have a hard time making decisions when it comes to fabrics, so I have a feeling I will be bringing about 60 squares and then cutting them down as I learn more from Katie.

What are you all up to this week?

Wordless Wednesday – Caption It!

I’ve decided to start a Wordless Wednesday on my blog. Every Wednesday (except when we have A Lovely Year of Finishes parties go live) I am going to post a picture with no caption. It would be tons of fun if you replied in the comments with what you think the caption should be. So here goes!

Do Good Stitches January Blocks

Another month has come and gone for Do Good Stitches and I am very happy to say I will be mailing off my blocks today!  We were asked to make Butterfly Blocks following this tutorial by Quilts by Emily.

It is a very simple block, great for beginner quilters. It would also be a wonderful stash buster quilt block.

Trust Circle - Do Good Stitches - January 2014 Butterfly Blocks - https://www.sewbittersweetdesigns.comI liked making this block because it was a fast finish and they really are quite pretty to look at. I can’t wait to see this quilt come together!

What are you working on this week? Next up for me is making binding for my Rainbow Star Quilt.

Week 5 Goals

Wow! We are already in week 5. Time is really flying this year.

I have to say that I am really glad I am setting these simple weekly goals for myself, it is really helping me check things off the list. If you remember from last week my goal was to simply get my Riley Blake Challenge quilt backing made and get the quilt basted. Well I can happily say I blew that goal out of the water! I got it basted, quilted and trimmed!

Here is a view of the front.

Rainbow Star - https://www.sewbittersweetdesigns.comI have to say that I love the back almost as much as the front, and someone was kind enough to point out that I could use this as an entry to the Radiant Orchid quilt contest that is going on too!

Back - Riley Blake Challenge - https://www.sewbittersweetdesigns.comI am really happy to report that I used all of the provided Riley Blake fabrics between the front and the back and the only non-Riley Blake fabrics are the 2 solids I used. Also, I only purchased the Red Chevron and the binding fabric I plan to use to complete this quilt, which means for the most part this is entirely a stash quilt! WOOHOO!

I auditioned my binding choice yesterday. Someone from my guild bound one of her quilts in a chevron and I absolutely loved the over all effect and I’ve decided to take a page out of her book. What do you think?

Binding - Rainbow Star - https://www.sewbittersweetdesigns.comMy goals for this week are simple. I would like to get the binding strips made and sewn down to the front of the quilt. I plan to hand bind this one so I know I can’t finish that in one week. I also need to do my Do. Good Stitches blocks and have them mailed out by Friday. Here’s hoping I can get those done today! We are following this tutorial for a Butterfly Block.

I hope everyone has a wonderfully productive week! Don’t forget if you are finishing up your January Goals for A Lovely Year of Finishes to hop on over and link them up here!
