Tangled Tiles – A Finish

Happy Friday Everyone!

Today is especially happy for Anne and I because my hubby comes home tonight and we haven’t seen him in 2 weeks!  I can’t wait, I’m even making homemade bread and pasta for dinner tonight to celebrate his homecoming. I do so love to bake for my family.

Anyways! On to the quilting!

As a member of the South Sound MQG I had the opportunity to participate in a special challenge for Pacific Northwest Modern Quilt Guilds. The challenge was to take metallic fabric, thread or metallic themes and create a quilt no larger than 48×48″.  We were provided with fabrics from Robert Kaufman, my guild selected the Quilter’s Linen. It was luxurious to work with. Here is what I came up with:

TangledTiles-FULL - https://www.sewbittersweetdesigns.comIt is really much smaller than it looks – measuring 28.5″ x 28.5″.

It is an original design of mine. I really wanted to name it Drunken Tiles because of the quilting reminded me of someone just aimlessly wandering around but since this is being judged, I thought I would go with a slightly tamer name.

Here is a close up of the quilting:

TangledTiles-DETAIL - https://www.sewbittersweetdesigns.comI really enjoyed making this quilt and it will hanging in our bedroom, though I do hope it is accepted into the show, although after seeing some of the other entries, I’m not very confident.

Quilt Stats:

Name: Tangled Tiles
Fabrics: Kona Black, Quilters Linens
Thread – Metallics by Superior Threads

Thank you for stopping by! I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

I think it came out wonderful. I have been wanting to try that kind of machine quilting.

I love the finish. The quilting is perfect for it. I hope it is accepted. I haven’t seen the others, but yours is both simple and elegant. It could go with any decor at all, and it’s beautiful.

It looks great! (I think you should have gone with Drunken Tiles though! It’s funny and memorable :D)

  6. Beautiful! What size and kind of needle did you use with the metallic thread? Was it a “wing” needle? Did you use a regular sewing machine or a long arm? Did you have problems with “thread shred?” What did you use in the bobbin?

it’s beautiful! Seeing this post on Saturday inspired me to start quilting a quilt that I basted months ago. I had no idea how to quilt it until I saw this. i didn’t end up quilting it the same, but you encouraged me to do it, so thanks!

A photo never does a quilt, justice. This one must be amazing in person because I love it, in the photo. I hope it’s accepted. I love the name “Drunken Tiles” and think you should stick with it.
