Sewing Therapy Tuesday

This weekend and yesterday I took some time for sewing therapy. It is cheaper than the traditional kind of therapy and I can do it in the comfort of my jammies! I worked on blocks 2 and 3 from the Curve It Up Challenge.  I have to say I am really enjoying the mental break from designing, though quite soon here I will likely need to take a break from this and start the dreaded Elsa Dress.

Blocks 1 2 3 - CIU Challenge - https://www.sewbittersweetdesigns.comI was originally going to do all American Made Brand solids, but I didn’t have enough and I wanted more variety in my blues, greens, grays, so I have gone ahead and added some Konas and Northcotts to the mix.

I am very happy with how it is turning out so far and really looking forward to block 4. Stay tuned for more curvy blocks!

Curve It Up Challenge

I have decided that I need a bit of a mental break. I still want to sew, I just don’t want to have to fuss with math and design and all the jazz that comes with designing patterns. So for the next little bit here I am going to work on the Curve It Up Challenge that Sew Kind of Wonderful is hosting right now.

I picked out some American Made Brand solids that I bought from my LQS this summer and whipped up the first block today.  It is a curved version of a Churn Dash block. It measure 16.5″ x 16.5″ and I was able to do it in less than an hour.

signaturePS. If I complete this, it will be my first successful QAL (that I didn’t run)!

Email and Blocks

Have you ever just felt so behind you don’t know if you can dig out of the chasm that has been created. That is how I feel. The first 2.5 weeks of this deployment have been so difficult, much more so than I anticipated. Largely because Anne is so much older this time and it is taking a deeper emotional toll on her than the last two. Age really does matter.  I am dreadfully behind on email. I’m going to try and catch up this week. If I haven’t replied to a comment, please know I am reading all of them, I’m just not really finding the time to sit down and respond to each one.

As terrible as it sounds, while I am behind on email, I am not behind on sewing, mainly because when Anne is napping it is exceptionally therapeutic for me to sit behind my machine and sew my heart out.  It makes all the pain and exhaustion go away.

Here are my bee blocks from August for Do Good Stitches, I am happy to report they were even mailed on time!

A Lovely Year of Finishes – September Goal Party

ALYoF2014

With my husband having deployed again, I pulled out a project I started during his last deployment. In fact I started it exactly two years ago, September 2012. The top is now sewn and it needs some borders. I want to do a solid border and then a scrappy border. My goal is to get the borders for this made. It is my design and most of the blocks were made by some pretty incredible friends, including the lovely Shanna.  This quilt will be for him when he gets home, though considering the time of year he will be getting home I’m not sure how much use he will get out of it at first.
