Zentangle Inspired Quilting

The entire reason I decided to start doing Zentangle drawing is because I was hoping it would help me with my quilting.  I wanted to be able to see a space and fill it with designs.  Now, I haven’t figured out how to do the shading or filling in, but the line drawings of Zentangle translate quite nicely to quilting.

I’ve been working on my March goal for A Lovely Year of Finishes and have finished all the quilting. All that’s left is binding but before I can do that I need to make my Do Good Stitches blocks.  In the mean time here are some pictures of the back of my quilt.

Paradox Quilting - https://www.sewbittersweetdesigns.com

This design was inspired by the Zentangle design called Paradox.  I started with a triangle of blue tape on my quilt. I used my walking foot to outline the triangle and then removed the tape. Every subsequent line I eyeballed.  I continued adding triangles until the bottom half of the quilt was filled. Here is an in progress shot:

I added some boxy spirals in my background fabrics and some wishbones in my main fabrics to finish the quilt. The wish bones were the only part that I did with my free motion foot, the rest of the quilting was all done with my walking foot.

I have to say that this is the quilt that I am the most proud of the quilting. I worked really hard on it and I love how it turned out. Once I get the binding on maybe then I will be ready to reveal the front…we shall see!

Happy Tuesday!

A Lovely Year of Finishes – February Winners

alyof2015So did you know that sometimes life just happens?  That’s what happened this month. So sorry that the winners are late, I got sick and choosing winners got pushed to the back burner. Shanna is awesome for putting up with my tardiness, she knew that Anne and I needed some time to recover and insisted we take care of ourselves first – what an amazing friend I am blessed to have!

Oopsie Daisy

So there I was, finishing a new quilt top, when tragedy struck.  Well maybe not a tragedy because I wasn’t that upset, but it was sure inconvenient!

I dropped my nice Rowenta iron. I’m wasn’t upset because I haven’t been able it put water in her for the last two years without her leaking everywhere.

Iron Guts Rowenta

So yesterday I went shopping for her replacement. I decided to stick with Rowenta, which may surprise you as my last one leaked. Well, if we are being honest, this was not the first time she had hit the ground so it probably wasn’t entirely her fault…

I decided to upgrade to Rowenta Pro Master. My mom has one and loves it, plus I’ve always heard that the best Rowentas are the ones marked “Made in Germany” and this one is!

Rowenta Pro Master

I haven’t tried her out yet, I worked in my yard for an hour and a half yesterday and didn’t have the energy to get in the sewing room, but today I plan to break her in!

Happy Monday and Happy Sewing Everyone!

Still here…

Hi everyone! Just a quick note to let you know that I am still alive and kicking. Anne and I are both still under the weather and heading back to the doctor today. Don’t think I’ve forgotten the password to my blog or anything like that, just haven’t had much energy to sit at the computer.  In all honesty I haven’t really sewn much at all this week either. I’ve mostly just been doodling in bed.

I started Zentangling on February 22, 2015 while waiting to be seen at the ER. I bought a book and just started doodling. Here are a couple of the designs I’ve come up with.

Hopefully I will be feeling better soon, in the mean time, happy sewing!

A Lovely Year of Finishes – March Goal Party

alyof2015Does that say March?!? What happened to February?  February is almost a wasted month for me, it is never here for long enough.  With March here that means it is time for a new fresh goal. My guild has our yearly exhibit at our local Arts Walk in April and I need to get my project quilted and bound. Since it is a secret project (my choice, not the rules), I’m only showing the backing today.

Divergent Backing - https://www.sewbittersweetdesigns.comThe quilt is already spray basted, now I just need an awesome quilting plan (I sort of have one in the back of my mind) and I need to bind it.

What about you? What one goal will you pick?

You have two requirements to be entered into the prizes this month.

1. Link-up {on this post} the first 7-days of the month

Please choose ONE project

and

2. Link-up in the last 7-days of the month

Only with a completed, successful project. And yes the same one that you choose earlier in the month.

Add your blog post or flickr photo (with appropriate descriptions) to the linky party below.

Please grab a button or link back to Shanna and I so other people can join in the fun!

And if you are on twitter or Instagram tag #ALYoF

**Please note, the linky party is the same here and over at Shanna , so there is no need to enter twice **

Here is a list of the lovely new and old sponsors and prizes for March
