Journal Covers

So I’m a tad addicted to Pinterest, and I have found that I pin a ton of things but don’t actually make them, I decided at the end of December that was going to change. It was time to start making some of the things that I pinned.

I saw a couple of great tutorials for journal covers, quite specifically this one by Rachel from Stitched in Color.

I decided to give this one a go and made 3 journal covers. I was very happy with all of them!

I made this lovely for my wonderful friend Lyanna, I had planned on sending it to her before the end of December, but things happen and it didn’t make it until the middle of January. I know she loved it and I was tickled with how it turned out.

This one I made using Rendezvous – my all time favorite fabric line. For the inside cover I played around with the Hex n More ruler, I hadn’t used the jewel shape before and I really love the scrappy feel of it.

This one I made for my mom. I had to line it because the blue journal was showing through the white fabric. The one thing I was mad at myself for is that the hexies are off center, but I was still learning and figuring the pattern out. At the end of the day I know my mom liked it and didn’t care that it wasn’t perfect.

What have you all been working on?

These are beauties, Melissa! Love these journals. I remember seeing Rachel’s posts with her journals and just they are wonderful. Great idea! Thank you for sharing.

I have made a few journal covers in the past. I just love your designs.

They all look great to me. Moms don’t even notice little things like crooked hexagons. My first thought was, “Oh she made a hexie flower!” =) Someone kindly made one of these for me a few years ago, and when I design cq seam embellishments (instead of just doing it in my head or with the needle as I go), I draw them in there.

They all look great! And yeah, as Susan says, mums never notice the things we kick ourselves over!

These are all beautiful!! I am going to have to try to make one or two of these. I finished my goal for this month, so I have free time. 🙂

I made that same decision last fall too,and have been trying to restrain myself! If I finish up this months goal early…

All three of your designs are sweet! My personal favorite is the second one :0) Well done you ;0)

Gorgeous – they are quite satisfying things to make, I tend to use scraps and make it up as I go along!

Just consider the uncentered hexies to be artistic liberty! I made some for little gifts this year and even kept one for myself. Love your designs.

I think the hexies off center to be a design element! nice job.
