Still Kicking

Hello my fellow sewists, quilters and all around crafty people. I have been absent. For a whole lot of life reasons. Here are some of the things that have changed in my life since I was last active. My dear Anne is now a beautiful 10 year old who is going to be in her 4th year of the Nutcracker Ballet, she now plays piano too, and she’s become quite the artist.

I am now a full time Middle School teacher. I teach English Language Arts, Beginning Quilting, Advanced Quilting, Marketing CTE (Career and Technical Education), and Enrichment. I also finished my Masters in Teaching last December and walked on stage (with my Anne) this past May.

My husband is home and simply amazing. I’m so blessed to have such an awesome life partner who stood by my side while I went through the craziness of finishing my Master’s.

I’m also still sewing. You can find me on Instagram, I’m @sewbittersweetdesigns

I thought I would post a couple pictures of my most recent finishes as proof of life.

Dream Big Panel – still not finished

The Dream Big Panel still isn’t finished. I trimmed it but I still dislike binding so that hasn’t happened yet.

I hope all of you are well. Now that I’m blogging again, I hope to post at least once a week.

Best wishes to all for a fabulous week!!

Happy New Year

I almost missed it! Ok, I totally blew it, but I’m only 30 days late! Things have been crazy for my family the last two years. I am happy to announce that I have finished my teaching credentials, I am gainfully employed, and I finished my Master’s degree too!

I am now teaching English Language Arts to 7th graders, Career and Technical Education (CTE) Marketing, and I also teach sewing and quilting!!!! I am so blessed to have found such an amazing school to work at.

There hasn’t been much sewing the last couple of year, but now that I am done, I have managed to actually complete something. I finished a quilt for my mom this week! Spike hasn’t been used in such a long time, I’m sure he was in shock. I before I started I gave him a good and thorough oiling because it had been so long. Here is the quilt I worked on for my mom. It is her design and I think she did an amazing job!

Here is a close up of the quilting. I did flowers that followed the pattern of the fabric on the white material only. Sorry for the color quality. It is winter here in Washington and we don’t see the sun much, so natural lighting isn’t really an option around here…at least not until Spring.

I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. This weekend I plan to finish loading another quilt for my mom and once that is finished I have a quilt from my friend Susan. I’ve had it for far too long but she has been super understanding with my schooling situation. I spent the last 5 months working on my capstone project and my first year of teaching. To say that life has been stressful is an understatement. Next weekend I am going on a sewing retreat with a friend to celebrate my graduation. I have a project all picked out, I just need to finalize my fabric selections. Hopefully now that school is done, I will be a much more permanent figure around the blog. I am also over on instagram, so feel free to check out my project progress there too!

I miss you all!!

Elephants Go A Marching

Woohoo! I’ve got another finish under my belt for 2018! I finished the quilt that I’m calling “Elephants Go A Marching.” If you know the real name, tell me in the comments and feel free to link to the pattern!

I decided to do a simple all over meander on this quilt. Sometimes, simple really is better. especially for a baby quilt. This baby will be born in the Spring and lightly quilted quilts are always better in the warmer months!

You can kind of see the meander in the picture above, but here is a close up.

For this quilt, I decided to take Spike off the stitch regulator and I forgot how much I like working without it. So much more control! The background in the quilt is actually white, but again, we’ve had a few days of cloudy weather so it’s hard to get bright pictures.

Photo quality issues aside, isn’t this quilt just so darling!

I hope you all have a wonderful Monday and a great week!!

What’s on Spike?

I decided to start a new feature on my blog called “What’s on Spike?” I will show you what I’m work on. The only thing you all need to know is that I don’t always know the names of the patterns that my customers use, so unless I direct you to a link for the pattern, the names I will say are just what I call them for my own record keeping.

I’m calling this darling baby quilt “Elephants Go A Marching.” I’ve no idea what the real name is, sorry!

First Finish of 2018

I finished my first customer quilt of 2018!
It feels so good to be back in my quilting groove. You don’t realize how much you will miss your hobbies until you have to take a break from them for an extended period of time.

This is a small quilt and I’m told it will become a car seat cover for a soon to be born baby.  I did some fun custom quilting on this one. It really inspired me and I was able to crank it out fairly quickly.

Here is a close up of the custom quilting that I did. Sorry, we just aren’t having a super great day for lighting. This photograph just doesn’t do the quilt justice.

It’s sew much fun to be back in the studio working again! I hope everyone has a wonderful Wednesday!
