Work-In-Progress Wednesday

This week I have been busily working on my A Lovely Year of Finishes goal. Normally I don’t attempt to bust my goal out in the first week of the month but I volunteered to make 4 quilts to be raffled off at Anne’s preschool so my sewing time is about to shift back to charity mode pretty quickly.

Spinner Quilt - FMQ Progress - https://www.sewbittersweetdesigns.comI’m really happy with the quilting design that I came up with. In fact the only quilting I have left to do is in the gray sections and the borders.  I’m hoping to bust it out today during preschool!

Have a Happy Wednesday and if you haven’t already, go link up your November goal!

Happy Halloween from Queen Elsa

The things we do to make our children happy. I, for instance, have been known to take on sewing projects that I know will make me completely miserable just so I can see this smile:

Queen Elsa - https://www.sewbittersweetdesigns.comPretty much since the Disney Frozen movie came out Anne has been telling me she wants to be Elsa for Halloween. We have seen a million costumes at the stores, but NO! She saw this pattern:

Elsa Dress Pattern - https://www.sewbittersweetdesigns.comAnd immediately had it in her head that mommy would make her dress and she would be one of a kind.  Well she is definitely one of a kind and she definitely forced mommy to learn a whole bunch of new sewing skills.  Working with sheer fabrics, hand sewing an underlining into a garment and how to do a rolled hem, just to name a few new skills.

Trick or treat - https://www.sewbittersweetdesigns.comDo you like our Teal Pumpkin peeking out from behind Queen Elsa? She is here trick-or-treating at our house because she knows we are an allergy safe house. In fact, in addition to “safe for Anne” candy (she has a deadly allergy to peanuts and tree nuts) we are giving out Halloween pencils. She insisted on a pencil for posing for these pictures this morning. She drives a hard bargain, and then for my troubles…she froze me!

Frozen! - https://www.sewbittersweetdesigns.comHappy Halloween from Queen Elsa (Anne) and me. We hope you have a fun and safe day!

A Quilt Top is Born

Some times I just get motivated. Last week was one of those times where I was just motivated to finish.

Backlit Spinner Quilt - https://www.sewbittersweetdesigns.comI love the way a quilt top looks against a bright window.  Always makes me think of stained glass.  This quilt is an original design that sat for almost 3 full years in the UFO pile.  I still need to name it and eventually write the pattern for it, but I am glad the top is finally done. I have a plan for the backing too, which is an added bonus!  Oh and did I mention the entire project will be made from my stash?!?

Spinner Quilt - https://www.sewbittersweetdesigns.comHere is a regular front view.  I already have the perfect Aurifil thread for quilting this beauty so I should meet my finish by Christmas goal.

The next week and a half will be dedicated to Charity projects. I have a quilt block pattern to write for Do Good Stitches, I am the quilter next month. I also have a bunch of sewing to do for my guild’s QuiltCon charity challenge quilt.

What is on your plate?
