Hello! My name is Melissa and I have been sewing for over 25 years and quilting for 20 years. I am a mom to my wonderful daughter Anne (her name has been changed to protect her anonymity), wife to my incredible hubby, and a middle school teacher. A bit about my art background, I have a minor in Studio Art from Santa Clara University and I am also a published quilt pattern designer. I like to use my art background in all of my quilting and my Bachelor of History in my study of quilting and sewing, integrating historical quilting elements into my contemporary quilt patterns. I also have a Masters in Teaching and I’m working on a second Masters in Digital Education Leadership and a doctorate in Digital Education Leadership.
It has been a dream since I bought my first sewing machine to design my own quilts and try and get them published. My dreams are finally coming true, in 2015 I was published for the first time in Make Modern Magazine and in 2016 I have been in Generation Q Magazine and again in Make Modern Magazine, in 2017 I appeared in Modern Quilts Unlimited twice – once on the cover. It is such an honor to be included in such wonderful publications.
In 2016 another of my quilting/sewing dreams was brought to life when my husband convinced me to purchase an Innova Long Arm quilting machine on a 12 foot frame. I have now added Long Arm Quilter to my resume. Due to school and work commitments, I am not currently long arm quilting for others, but stay tuned, that may change some day.

Welcome to the Pacific Northwest Melissa. It has been my home for more years than I care to reveal. I’ve lived on both sides of the mountains, and if you get too water-logged, come east. We quilt on the east side too. I like the flying geese project. Chain piecing certainly does speed up the process of assembling many parts for a whole. I came upon your blog through Bellaonline–out of New Zealand and Australia. Keep stitching.

Do you have a quilt block pattern for a gingerbread man?
This probably isn’t the best place to leave this question, but there isn’t a comment place available on the Scrappy Trees tutorial. I am making this lovely block 9 times for a baby quilt and really enjoying it. I have all of the pieces finished except the Double Pine Tree. The provided PDF file doesn’t seem to match up to the photo tutorial and I feel like I am missing something. For example, in the photos you show a narrow template and additional 1″ wide sashing by the small tree, but the PDF has only a wider template. Also, the template for the trunk of the small tree appears to measure 1.5 x 1.5, but the picture indicates a different size. Thank you for your assistance. This will make a great forest quilt when I am finished.
