Vintage Christmas Sampler – Geese In Formation

From now until all the blocks are up, I am going to try to do 2 block tutorials a week for the Vintage Christmas Sampler – hopefully this will mean you will be able to finish before Christmas if you have taken the plunge with me. Theoretically this means all the tutorials will be up by Thanksgiving…I hope 🙂

Today’s block is an original design of mine. I wanted flying geese in my quilt, because to me there is nothing more vintage or beautiful in quilting. I love the way they look and until September they intimidated the heck out of me!  To construct this block I used the Easy Star and Geese Ruler (to create 16 4×2″ geese) – I did a tutorial on how to use it in September when I made my Ruby Quilt. If you do not have an Easy Star and Geese Ruler you can find instructions on how to make Geese here.

Note: all seams are 1/4″

You will need a 4.5″ center square, 2 white strips and 2 green strips 2.5″ wide.

If you are not using the Easy Star & Geese Ruler you will need to cut squares according to the tutorial above (they are also constructing 4″ x 2″ geese!)

Make your geese:

Lay out your block:

Sew together your flying geese sections:

Sew Rows:

Finish block:

Congratulations! 13 blocks down – 7 blocks to go!

Happy Sewing!
